45R Clothing Store Soho, New York City

Back to projects

Located at 89 Crosby Street in Manhattan, the newly designed 45R Indigo NYC flagship store is dedicated to their exquisite indigo jeans and clothing line. YUN Architecture worked with NMRL to renovate the store with a new design with many Japanese hand-crafted architectural elements that are in harmony with the “nai monozukuri” or “no (mass) manufacturing” ethos of 45R Indigo.

The project features recycled Japanese stone pavers, cedar wood shoji wall, chestnut wood display racks, antique wood tokonoma niche with traditional mud finished walls, carved Oya stone tea hearth, recycled tin roofing, special cloth finished shikkui walls, hand scooped chestnut wood wall, spit live edge chestnut wood display tables and hand patinated brass cladding. The overall effect of the space is handcrafted luxury with a contemporary Japanese aesthetic.

“What runs consistently through the design of the Crosby Street store is the essence of Japanese architecture: sustainability. By using authentic materials, wood and stone can be disassembled and reused, preserving their integrity for 100 or even 200 years, all the while becoming more beautiful with age.”
