Downtown Loft Apartment New York City

Back to projects

Situated within a converted printing factory commissioned by John Jacob Astor and built in 1890, the Downtown Loft Apartment renovation celebrates the building’s existing industrial structure while fully renovating the apartment to a refined and elevated environment.

The building’s steel and rough-hewn timber beams and columns were left exposed and refinished with a light natural stain. An interior room was added to the deep loft space to be used as an office or guest bedroom. This room is enclosed by oak paneling, solid oak slats and, translucent glass to allow natural light into the room while providing a sense of privacy.

To offset the industrial elements, new refined finishes such as white oak chevron patterned wood flooring, Breccia Capria marble countertops, and stone clad bathrooms were added. Custom designed white oak millwork was added throughout as well as a custom Arabescato marble fireplace surround, recessed art lighting and, light coves creating a unique and elevated space.
