Central Park Residence New York City
Located in a building overlooking Central Park, the design for this apartment takes inspiration from the iconic pre-war buildings located along Central Park, as well as from the park itself. A new arched opening was introduced between the living and dining rooms, connecting the two spaces and creating an extended grand room with views of the park and cityscape beyond.
Bolection-shaped plaster casings frame all of the openings, doors, and windows. The foliated rinceaux-patterned crown moldings were influenced by the flora of Central Park and create a sense of biophilia throughout the space. In the primary bedroom, cerused white oak, a centuries-old technique to enhance and lighten wood, was used to fit out the primary closets with bespoke millwork.
By strategically incorporating design motifs and materials typical of historic buildings, YUN created a refreshed contemporary space with elevated detailing inspired by iconic prewar New York City apartments.
